Maritime Decarbonization Conference

CORE Project Administrators were asked to speak at the Maritime Decarbonization Conference on December 4-5 in Katy, Texas. They discussed the importance of ports as catalysts for zero-emission corridors and discussed the design and intent of the California CORE Project. CORE funds many different types of equipment that are used throughout the supply chain journey of goods carried by ships. It was great to interact with so many different end users and other stakeholders in the maritime and adjacent sectors.

Thank you for your continued support of the California CORE Project and for helping drive the transition to zero-emission solutions. CORE’s key achievements in 2024 included over $102 million in voucher funding issued with more than 250 project participants. In addition, the project enrolled more than 60 eligible manufacturers and 45 approved dealers, providing access to over 345 eligible pieces of equipment. Continuing to expand its reach, CORE has also increased engagement with communities by participating in more than 15 industry and community events as well as 6 ride and drive + equipment showcase events, further promoting awareness and participation. See you in 2025!

A new FAQ guide is now available to help CORE-approved dealers and purchasers navigate DMV registration and AB794 compliance requirements for on-road terminal tractors. This resource provides essential information on registration options, eligibility requirements, and steps to ensure compliance with CORE program standards.

The guide also outlines how AB794 impacts fleet eligibility, including labor law attestations that must be submitted online. Staying informed on these requirements is critical to maintaining program eligibility and avoiding disruptions in voucher processing.

Zero-Emissions Showcase + Ride & Drive

Pomona R&D Team Photo

The CORE Team was in full attendance at the Zero-Emissions Showcase + Ride and Drive in Pomona, CA. CORE-eligible equipment like the Wiggins Yard eBull and Kalmar Mobile Solutions electric forklift powered up the Pomona Fairplex while CORE Project Administrators shared information about California off-road regulations and incentives. The event was a great success, attracting nearly 700 attendees, and provided an excellent opportunity for fleets to learn more about the resources available through CORE and other CARB initiatives.

CORE Project Administrators participated in the ZEV Ag and Fleet Summit in Shafter, CA alongside Cal Fleet Advisors providing technical assistance and resources available to California growers. CORE-eligible equipment manufacturer, Monarch Tractor, engaged with event attendees while showcasing zero-emissions agriculture equipment like the MK-V tractor. The event was a great opportunity for growers in the San Joaquin Valley to learn more about CORE-eligible equipment and California incentives.

The 37th annual Marine Log FERRIES Conference and Expo in Seattle, WA held space for the North American Ferry industry to come together and explore innovative ideas, products and services. At the recent Air Quality and Climate Change Strategies in the Use of Zero- and Low-Emissions Machinery event hosted by CALAC+ in Santiago, Chile. Daniela Day presented the critical role of the California CORE Project, with a special focus on the innovative Off-Road ZETI Tool. Her presentation highlighted the tool’s potential to transform the adoption of zero-emissions technologies in the off-road sector by streamlining decision-making processes and fostering collaboration between industry and government. Daniela emphasized the importance of these efforts in accelerating the region’s transition to sustainable practices and achieving significant emissions reductions. The Off-Road ZETI Tool is now live and Version 2 will be available in the fall of 2024!

Version 2 Coming Soon: Off-Road Zero Emission Technology Inventory (ZETI) Tool  

On August 21, 2024, seven new categories of zero-emission equipment are launching on the Off-Road ZETI including construction, harbor craft, agriculture, airport ground support equipment, rail and locomotive, mobile power and ground power units, and mining.  

Users will be able to explore the latest offerings on the zero-emission off-road market to compare incentives and specifications – including the fully electric boats that cruised the River Seine at the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony! 

A webinar will be hosted on Friday, August 30 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Pacific Time to highlight the tool’s features and upcoming off-road initiatives within CALSTART’s Global Drive 2 Zero program.

In June, CORE in partnership with Fresno State's Water, Energy and Technology (WET) Center brought together growers, equipment manufacturers, and industry leaders for the third stop on the Future of Food tour. The event highlighted innovative solutions in agricultural sustainability, featuring zero-emissions vehicles and clean off-road equipment.

Port Electrification Conference

The 2nd Annual Port Electrification US Conference in Long Beach, CA, was a pivotal gathering for exploring electrification solutions in port operations. CORE project administrators led industry conversations focused on creating more sustainable port practices and financial support from CA incentives like CORE. Our participation underscored California's commitment to sustainable port infrastructure.

Funding Update

FY23-24 CORE Heavy-Duty equipment voucher requests will open in Q3 of 2024.

Closed: The FY22-23 voucher submittal-period window for the Commercial Harbor Craft (CHC) segment closed on April 1, 2024, at 9 a.m. PT.

FY23-24 Heavy-Duty Equipment Eligibility and Dealer Applications Are Being Accepted Until June 1, 2024

The CORE Project is accepting original equipment manufacturer (OEM) eligibility and dealer applications for zero-emission heavy-duty off-road equipment for the FY23-24 funding cycle.

Interested parties are encouraged to submit applications by June 1, 2024, by 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time to receive due consideration. Equipment and dealer applications will be accepted after June 1 but cannot be guaranteed review or approval prior to the voucher opening date.

Interested OEMs can email eligibility applications to [email protected] and dealers can apply for approval through [email protected].

On March 29, CORE project administrators hosted a virtual learning session centered on agricultural equipment best practices for the zero-emission off-road industry. Delfino Farms provided insight into their experience as a small business participating in the CORE Project to purchase a discounted Monarch MK-V Tractor. Experts from DANNAR, Monarch Tractor, and Moxion Power discussed the benefits and challenges of adopting zero-emission equipment in the agricultural space

Newport Beach International Boat Show

Newport Beach Boat Show

On April 18–21, the Newport Beach International Boat Show welcomed visitors and exhibitors to the marina for a showcase of both recreational and commercial use maritime vessels. CORE project administrators were able to attend and share information about the CORE Project with interested manufacturers, dealers, and customers. An entire section of the on-water exhibit area was dedicated to electric vessels, highlighting the growing interest in zero-emission commercial harbor craft and the increase in vessels available on the market today.
